With the release on May 22nd of its new Penguin 2.0 algorithm, Google has launched its latest assault on spam. This update to the Penguin algorithm goes to new depths while looking at a wider set of pages in order to combat webmasters who don’t play by the rules. We examine who will be affected by the update, how it will impact traffic and rankings, and what we to expect in the future.
With its previous updates, Panda and Penguin 1.0, Google has been very clear about how it intended to fight spam. At its core Penguin 2.0 is not a penalty but rather an algorithm update, and so far we have only witnessed its lightest iteration: Google has made it clear that this was a soft launch and that it plans to turn up the dial in the near future.
